About

Peter Melville

I’ve had a fondness for plastic scale models since I was a very young child. There has always been something magical about building model cars, ships, aircraft. Now, as an adult, I still lose myself in the process of crafting these models. It’s more than just a hobby to me. It’s a way or life and a part of my childhood that will never go away.

One of the things I love about building models is the sense of accomplishment I feel when a project is completed. There’s a great deal of pride in knowing the finished creation is the product of your hard work. Model building is a hobby uniquely suited to individual achievement. When you finish a piece you know that you alone were responsible for bringing a model to life.

I became a scale model builder because I was fascinated with replicating items in miniature. Models today are so detailed and realistic. Working on that exquisite ship or spacecraft is second only to working on the real thing, something few of us have the opportunity to do. Models have a way of transporting you to a different place and time. Some may call that escapism, but I think of it as a ticket to the deepest parts of my imagination.

My hope is that you’ll find something on my website that encourages and inspires your own projects. I’m looking forward to sharing the journey with my website visitors.

Hobby Model Guide

My reasons for starting a website with reviews of plastic scale models can be summed up in how much I love introducing others to this hobby. The idea for the website came to me while I was working on a project of my own and experienced some difficulty. I suddenly realized that a review of the model I had in my hands would have been very useful before I made my purchase.

It can be difficult to find reliable information about plastic models online. Many websites exist about the hobby, but few of them present an honest assessment of various kits. I wanted people to have access to research and recommendations that would help them find quality models at a reasonable price.

My website is designed for the novice model builder as well as the expert. I strive to maintain a tone in my reviews that will appeal to both groups. One thing I have learned is that the knowledge of model building is something one can always improve.

I hope that I can help you find scale models that are fun to work with. The worst feeling I know of is buying a model only to be disappointed with the outcome. Many models aren’t cheap, and it helps to know what to expect before you buy.

At the end of the day I built a website that is one I wish would have existed in my early days of model building. When doing a review I try to answer all of the questions that I would ask before buying. If that helps others enjoy the hobby, then my mission is accomplished.
